This translates into innovative curriculum based on research and student needs. - CESL provides superior English language instruction through a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for academic and professional success. National Mix Nationalities of students include Mexican(25%),the Mideast(22%), Korean(17%), Japanese(12%) and other countries(24%). The percentage may vary each month. Conditional Admission Conditional admission refers to English conditional admission. This is a type of admission granted by University of Arizona International admission offices to those students who are academically admissible but who are currently missing the English proficiency requirement. Conditional admission is offered for all undergraduate programs   Center for English as a Second Language About the Since the fall of 1970, when the University of Sonora in Hermosillo sent 22 engineers to the UA to perfect their English language skills before beginning their graduate degrees in the College of Engineering, CESL has trained thousands of undergraduate and graduate students from nearly 100 countries for academic study at the University of Arizona. As a self-funding unit, CESL strategically invests in marketing and recruitment efforts around the globe. In recent years, with a netwiork of recruitment agents and affiliate agreements, CESL has been recruiting many students to the UA. CESL directly transfers students to the UA which eventually translates into thousands of dollars in tuition brought to the UA via CESL students. The IEP features a skills-based curriculum in which the students learn and improve their English language abilities by focusing on the following skills: reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar. IEP classes prepare students for future academic or professional use of English. A further goal of the upper levels of the program is to give students the foundation they need to succeed in rigorous academic classes in CESL’s University Track Pathway and, eventually, in a degree program at University of Arizona. Placement Test : Students in the Intensive English Program (IEP) take a placement test upon arrival to determine which level the student will begin. Levels : A1 (Beginner) to proficiency B1+ (High Intermediate) Curriculum : Students in the full-time Intensive English Program (IEP) must take 2 integrated-skills core classes (Oral Communication and Written Communication) and 2 skills courses (Grammar and Reading Skills). Classroom Hours : 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM Full-time students will not be at CESL more than 7 hours in day, which includes breaks. The Multimedia Language Lab has 26 workstations and an extensive software collection that students use for individual study. The Ernestine A. Neff Memorial Library hosts a collection of 3,500 volumes and periodicals on ESL methodology, curriculum development, program management and instruction for teachers, as well as reading carts for extensive reading in the classroom.
