The mission of the American Language Institute (ALI) is to provide quality English as a Second Language instruction that meets the high educational standards of its affiliate campus, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). As a unit within College of Continuing and Professional Education, the self-support division on campus, the American Language Institute responds to the needs of a variety of audiences. As such, the American Language Institute includes long-term and short-term programs, credit and non-credit courses, as well as support services and activities appropriate for its different clients. A large part of the efforts within the institute focuses on the Intensive English Program (IEP), which offers academic and practical ESL instruction to a post-secondary audience. The IEP administrators, faculty and staff endeavor to maximize learning and successfully prepare students for studies at U.S. colleges and universities.
CSU Long Beach, along with its great language program, is conveniently located in Southern California near downtown Los Angeles and San Diego.

Submit the Housing Request Form to the American Language Institute by fax, email or mail.
The American Language Institute will send students an email with your CSULB ID number and password to apply online at www.csulb.edu/housing.
Pay the $400 non-refundable deposit online by credit card or check made payable to 'CSULB Residence Halls'.
CSULB housing will notify students via email when you have been placed and with information about moving in.
Homestay
Living in a homestay provides a unique opportunity for a student to experience an American lifestyle and practice English regularly. Homestay hosts are carefully chosen for the best quality and by referral only. A student can begin living in a homestay in any term and continue year-round.
A Homestay placement is not guaranteed. Please apply as soon as possible to reserve a spot.
Considerations Each homestay has a unique environment. A host 'family' may consist of a single woman, a single man, a couple or a couple with children.
Most Californians do not smoke. Most homestays require students to smoke outside the home.
