Wisconsin ESL Institute (WESLI) About the
Founded in 1981, WESLI has earned an excellent reputation among universities and colleges for equipping international students with skills to succeed in competitive academic environments.  Students from all over the world have had satisfying, memorable cross-cultural experiences at WESLI and in Madison.WESLI has a long history of a family-like atmosphere, as teachers and staff care about students personally while they assist them academically.  Most staff members have lived abroad, speak one or more foreign languages, have years of experience teaching English, and have been at WESLI for more than 15 years! Today, WESLI offers over 30 courses across 8 levels, an online English program, and a TEFL certificate program (Midwest Teacher Training Program – MTTP).  WESLI has about 350 students each session.  Students come from over 40 countries. For 30 years, WESLI has enjoyed an excellent reputation with Wisconsin universities, educational agencies, and students from all over the world. Each session, an average of 400 students from more than 30 different countries come to WESLI and learn from experienced, creative teachers who encourage them to work hard while having fun. Outside of the classroom, special cultural events and weekly activities are organized by school to encourage students to practice their English while learning about American culture and making new friends. In the past, favorite activities include: downhill ski trips, visiting dairy farms, afternoons going canoeing or kayaking, shopping trips to Chicago or attending University of Wisconsin football games.  A perfect location, unique environment, excellent program, and moderate cost make WESLI one of the best places in the United States to learn English. The mission of Wisconsin English as a Second Language Institute (WESLI), a for-profit, stand-alone IEP, is to equip our students with the language skills necessary to meet their future goals and provide them with a positive cultural experience; thereby equipping them to effectively communicate with people from a wide variety of cultures.
