The Institute of English Language Studies (IELS), is a large all year round organisation specialising in teaching English as a foreign language. IELS was established as a joint venture in 1985 between Frosch Touristik International GmbH (FTI) and Festa Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of Mizzi Organisation.IELS was formed in 1985, with some 10 classrooms in Parisio Street, Gzira, which eventually was converted to a summer school for Teenagers when we moved into a new school premises in Mattew Pulis, Sliema in 1992. The purpose built premises is air-conditioned throughout, has bright, modern classrooms, a cafeteria, a bookshop, self-study centre and an internet café with free WiFi access. The school in Gzira has undergone a major refurbishment programme and has been renovated to create a dedicated learning environment for teenagers. The centre comprises an open-plan student lounge with a reception area, modern administration offices, 60 bright and airy classrooms, and a large internal courtyard. In 1999 IELS opened an English school in Xlendi, Gozo and in 2004 we moved to a brand new small school in Ghajnsielem, where we have 10 bright and airy classrooms, a video room, administration office, a reception area with vending machines and residential accommodation on the top floors.IELS has developed into an international EFL operation with an excellent reputation and teaches around 10,000 students every year at its 3 schools in Malta and Gozo.
Focus of Study : Many students coming to learn English in Malta choose the General English Course which aims to improve competence in general English. The course provides systematic practice in the four main areas of language learning: reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Curriculum : The first session concentrates on stabilising and improving present knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. The second session is fluency based with the objective of improving communication skills and helping students to gain confidence in spoken English. This course is ideal if students want plenty of free time to explore Malta and soak up the local culture.
This course means focusing on individual language skills in the morning and working on different aspects of the language such as improving the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as enhancing and increasing active vocabulary and grammar knowledge. The afternoon session focuses on practicing and improving communication skills and fluency.

Accomodation
Migiarro Residence The Migiarro Residence is conveniently situated above the IELS Gozo School, offering very comfortable accommodation in three self-catering apartments. All apartments are fully furnished to high standards and have three twin or triple bedrooms (most with private balconies), shower room, bathroom, a spacious living area and a fully equipped kitchen. Students can choose to share a room with another student or have a single room for a supplement. All students in the residence have access to the large terrace area with magnificent views of Gozo and Malta. Victoria, the 'the down-town', is only 15 minutes away by bus. Migiarro Residence is catered for students 18 years and over.
Host Families This opportunity gives students the feeling of a home away from home, and is also the best way to get a real feel for the Island and its people. The family will welcome students and give them information about the hidden treasures to visit on the Maltese Islands that are off the tourist track. Students can also practise the English that they have learnt at school with their 'second family'. The school has a mixture of families, couples and single people to host students and try and match students with the most compatible family. The host families are situated in neighbouring areas or a short bus ride from the adult school. All families are visited regularly to ensure that the high standards are maintained. Staying with a host family is a truly unforgettable experience.
Surrounding Area
IELS Gozo is ideally located in Ghajnsielem within walking distance of Mgarr Harbour where ferries run regularly taking just 20 minutes to cross to and from the main island of Malta. Ghajnsielem is an attractive village with a strong sense of community and a thriving social life.
Facilities
The school is located on the main road on two floors in a modern building, the first floor is dedicated to the teaching centre, which is fully air-conditioned and comprises 10 bright classrooms, a video room, an administration office and a reception area. On the second floor, one can find the student residence.

Weekly leisure activity programmes are designed specifically to suit the various age groups which attend courses at IELS. The dedicated Leisure Team has put together the best mix of activities, excursions, sightseeing tours and fun-filled events which will surely give you the opportunity to make the most out of your language holiday and make new found friendships from all over the world.Every student taking an English course in Gozo will be provided with a wide range of activities and leisure options. Students can participate in activities such as horse riding, live music at a pub, trip to San Blas beach, Comino boat trip, city sight-seeing Malta tour and bowling at Lucky Jacks.
