Conditional Admission
Successful completion of the ELC's University Admission Preparation Programs prepares students to study at English-speaking universities and satisfies the UVic language requirement for undergraduate and graduate programs. Students with a TOEFL iBT 71 or IELTS 5.5 who meet the academic requirements for UVic may be granted admission to the University Pathway Program for International Students and/or gain conditional acceptance to undergraduate programs.

At the end of the program, you will be complete a written and oral exam. If you pass the level exams, you will move up to the next level of the 12-week program.

Welcome to the University of Victoria's award-winning homestay program! We bring international students and Canadian families together to share their cultures with each other. Our staff is dedicated to creating opportunities for homestay students and Canadian families to develop long-lasting friendships. Homestay is a wonderful experience that you will never forget.
We provide Homestay for:
students enrolled in English Language Centre Programs from September to June, international students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of Victoria
University Dormitories
Living in UVic's dormitoriesis a wonderful experience because everything that you need — classrooms, cafeterias, pubs, a movie theatre, a travel agency, an interfaith chapel and many more facilities — is just a short walk from your dormitory room. You will also be living with your classmates as well as Canadian Cultural Assistant staff, giving you an opportunity to practise English while learning about many other cultures.
NOTE: UVic dormitory accommodation is only available for short-term programs in July and August.
The ELC's Dormitory Accommodation includes: a single room with a bed, desk, dresser, mirror, linens and free internet access, a cafeteria meal plan (2-3 meals per day), support of Cultural Assistant staff living in the residences, additional evening and weekend activities.
Private Housing
UVic Residence Services office maintains current lists of houses, apartments, and rooms for rent. Victoria newspapers and campus billboards also advertise rental options, including short-term sublets and people looking for roommates.
Surrounding Area
The province of british Columbia is located on Canada's west coast. Victoria is the capital city of BC. Victoria has the mildest climate in Canada, with warm, dry summers and winter with rain, but very little snow. Victoria is located on Vancouver Island and is a short flight or ferry ride to Vancouver and Seattle. Spectacular ocean, mountain and forest scenery surround Vancouver Island. Over 1 million tourists visit Victoria each year to enjoy: outdoor activities like biking, sailing, kayaking, cycling, famous gardens, parks and beaches, excellent shopping, restaurants and nightlife.

1) 유학을 결심한 이유
대학시절부터 어학연수나 해외에서 살아보는 것에 대한 막연한 꿈이 있었습니다. 현실적인 이유로 미루고 잊고 살다가 더 늦기전에 도전해보려고 조금 늦은나이지만 결정하게 되었습니다.
왜 (이 학교 또는 나라를) 선택했나요?
사실 저는 미국 학생비자를 받지못햇습니다. 그래서 대안으로 원장님의 추천을 통해 빅토리아 대학교를 알게되었습니다. 또한 저는 시끌벅적한 도시보다는 조용하고 평화로운 곳을 선호하기 때문에 빅토리아 도시 자체가 저와 잘 맞을 것이라고 생각했습니다.
2) 학교 및 학업 경험 ?학교 생활과 수업 방식은 어땠나요?
사실 .. 수업 방식이 처음에는 맘에 들지 않았는데요 ㅎㅎ 다른 반 방식은 잘 모르겠지만 저희반의 경우 선생님이 무언가를 가르치는 시간은 적고, 학생들끼리 discussion을 많은 시간 시키셨습니다. discussion이라 해봤자 자기 소개나 일상토크가 대부분이었어요 근데 부족한 영어를 쓰는 학생들끼리 많은 시간 대화를 나누는게 친목도모 이외에 영어공부가 되는 효과는 그 당시에는 거의 없었던거 같습니다. .. ^^ 그래도 하고싶었던 말이 있는데 나오지 않았던 부분들을 기억했다가 집에와서 표현들을 찾아서 익히고 공부해서 다음번엔 그 말을 할 수 있게 노력하여 조금씩 말하기가 자연스러워 지고 있습니다. 수업 분위기는 늘 좋고 금요일마다 재미있는 액티비티가 있는것도 재미있습니다. 수업 이외에도 원하는 학생들에 한해 writing skills, pronunciation skills 등 추가 클래스들이 개설되어 있어 공부할 의지가 있는 학생들은 추가 수업들을 활용할 수 있어 좋았습니다.
3) 홈스테이 현지 생활 & 적응
홈스테이 아주머니께서 20년정도 홈스테이를 받으셨어서 그런지 체계적이고, 학생들을 위해 말도 또박또박 해주시고 또 아주 친절하셔서 빅토리아 생활에 적응하는 데 도움이 많이 되었습니다. 언제든 알려만 주면 친구를 데리고 와도 된다고 하셔서 친구들을 데리고 와서 김치찌개도 먹고 삼겹살도 먹고 재밌는 시간들도 보낼 수 있었습니다. 4월의 빅토리아는 날씨가 너무 좋고, 어딜 가나 풍경이 너무 예뻐서 매일매일 만보이상 걷고 있습니다. 커다란 나무, 공원, 바다를 좋아하는 분이라면 빅토리아대학교 어학연수 너무 만족하실 것 같아요!
4) 해외교육문화원 이용 경험
해외교육문화원을 통해 준비하면서 가장 도움이 되었던 점은 무엇인가요?
저의 경우 좋은 대학교의 어학당을 추천해주신게 도움이 되었습니다. 너무 많은 선택지가 있어서 해외교육문화원 원장님의 도움이 없었으면 선택이 어려웠을 것 같습니다. 저의 상황과 성향에 잘 맞게 좋은 학교를 추천해주신 것 같아 감사드립니다!
저는 25년 9월 독일로 교환학생을 앞두고 좀더 영어 실력이 필요해서 캐나다 연수를 신청하였습니다. 저는 친척분의 두아이가 독일과 캐나다를 해외교육문화원에서 6년전에 진행을 하여 편하게 유학원을 믿고 신청할 수 있었습니다. 저는600레벨 uap 배정받았는데 이 클라스는 저말고 나머지 수강생은 모두 uvic 대학에 다니는 international 학생들이었고 빅토리아 대학 학교에 전공수업을 하는 대학교 1학년 애들이 듣는 수업이었어요.그래서 매일 에세이쓰고(600단어 이상) 저한테 너무 아카데믹해서 500 제너럴로 내려와서 수업을 합니다
600 만큼 500은 아카데믹이 없더라구요 근데 전 만족합니다 500제너럴도 에세이 쓰는건 똑같은데 내 경험 감정 이런거 위주고 600에세이는 진짜 주제 주고 서론본론결론 나누고 그런거였어요. 숙제또한 너무 많습니다. 홈스테이는 홈맘도 친절하시고 집도 좋고 학교에서 가까워요. 저는 아주 만족합니다

다운타운에 있는 큰 은행을 이용하는걸 추천드려요!
그리고 다운타운의 Bay Center과 Dollarama도 너무 추천해요! Dollarama는 캐나다의 다이소 같은 느낌이라, 1달러로 간단한 간식도 사먹을 수 있어요!
Bay Center의 3층에 있는 옷가게가 있는데, 가격도 다른 곳 보다 싸고 디자인도 너무 예뻐서 전 지금도 자주 애용하고 있어요!
한국보다는 비싸긴 하지만 캐나다 물가 생각하면 굉장히 싸다고 생각해요..!
4) 해외교육문화원 이용 경험
해외교육문화원을 통해 준비하면서 가장 도움이 되었던 점은 무엇인가요?

혼자서 미국 어학연수를 준비하다 실패하고, 마지막 희망으로 찾아온 곳이 여기였어요.
어학연수 준비가 힘든 것도 알고, 또 다시 복잡한 절차를 밟아야한다는 것이 막막했었는데
여기는 제가 찾아보거나 혼자서 해야하는 것 없이 전부 다 해주세요!
신체검사 같이 제가 꼭 가야하는 것들만 갔다왔고, 그 외의 나머지는 원장님께서 다 처리해주셨어요.
혼자서 외국 나가보는 것이 처음이기도 하고 두려움이 있어서 이것 저것 많이 여쭤봤었는데도
하나부터 열까지 다 친절하게 설명해주시고,
중간에 몇번 알아듣지 못해도 다시 차근차근 설명해주셔서 너무 감사했어요.
