Established in 1993, Vancouver English Centre(VEC) has become one of Vancouver's premiere English language learning centres, enrolling 3,500 students annually from around the globe. Learn English in one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the host city of the 2010 Winter Olympics. VEC is a leader in ESL education. VEC offers English language training, TOEFL Preparation, TOEIC Preparation, academic preparation, TEFL training, and a Business Internship Program. With one school in Vancouver, Canada and one in Guadalajara, Mexico, VEC has everything international students need to improve their English language skills. Our computer labs are modern and fully equipped with the latest software for TOEFL Preparation, Business English, Pronunciation, and TOEIC Preparation. The VEC curriculum is sophisticated and efficient. We offer 15 levels of ESL instruction, as well as many elective courses. Our language schools in Canada and Mexico both offer carefully arranged and monitored homestay accommodation VEC homestays are carefully screened. All students enjoy homestays that are suitable for their personal habits and interests. VEC also offers optional leisure and sightseeing activities almost every day. Students will learn curricula focusing on language functions in afternoon classes. Pair and group activities related to the language functions improve Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills. Everyday English is also covered in the afternoon classes. Your English language communication ability will be evaluated with an interview on the first day and then evaluated as often as twice a week in afternoon classes.
There are 15 levels,. All students are placed in separate levels according to their grammar and conversation skills. Students usually progress to higher levels every 4 weeks. Although all courses are normally planned in four-week sessions, you may register for as many weeks as you wish. There are five schedules.
We have developed textbooks to complement our carefully planned curricula. Our Language Power textbooks will help you progress through your English grammar courses efficiently and methodically. Our Just Say It textbooks will help you with your English conversation courses. We have a different textbook for each level. You will receive a new textbook at the beginning of each session. There is no additional charge for these textbooks.
The course offers year-round every Monday, 26 lessons per week.

For ESL students, Canada offers a unique and ideal learning environment. Canadian English is standard, proper, and easily understood around the world. Canada has a reputation as a leader in English language education. There are many good language schools in Canada, especially in Vancouver. Vancouver has everything. Although Vancouver has many restaurants, theaters, clubs, and shops, it does not suffer from the crime, pollution and congestion of larger cities. Vancouver Canada blesses its residents with lush green forests, a glistening ocean coastline and spectacularly rugged mountains. These diverse features offer a variety of recreational activities, such as sailing, skiing and hiking, all in the Vancouver area. This is one reason why Vancouver has been selected to host the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Facilities
Our spacious, open environment promotes interaction, information and social activities. Sit in the large open dining hall and watch news on our large "video walls", or check your email in one of our four student computer labs. Your tour begins in our reception area, goes through the main foyer and into a classroom. VEC has over 70 computers in five laboratories for students to use. All VEC students have free access to the computers, seven days a week. All computer labs have high-speed Internet connections, so they are very fast. All computers are equipped with mainstream software such as MS Office running under Windows.
Lesson Curriculum - At the end of each month, there are level tests. After satisfying the required score, you will be eligible to continue to the next level. Therefore, everyone tend to study hard at the end of each month just like semester exams. Compared to other ESL academies, they focus on grammar and are thoroughly categorized. Although morning class is meant to be grammar, and afternoon for conversation, depending on your choice, you may choose pronunciation, listening, writing or TOEIC. As the school size is large, if the class does not suit you, you will be able to change within the first week. Numbers of teachers are approximately about 10 and they are very kind. Nationality Ratio - There are students from various countries with different age groups wuch as Thailand, China, Japan, Brazil and Venezuela. Koreans ratio is about 3~5 out of 20 in each class. There is absolutely no racism these days, only back in the days when studying abroad in England used to be the only option. And Canada is mainly composed of immigrants so there is no racism.
School Atmosphere - Little bit exciting, but during the exam periods, everyone tends to come to school early and prepare for exams together and focus on studies. Lecture rooms are located in various places and students sometimes get lost. There are microwave and small sink for lunch time and out of all, it is very spacious. Coordinators from China, Japan, Korea and various countries are always there for you. Also, within the ‘English Only Zone’ you are to use English only and if you don’t you will receive Yellow Card. They also draw lots once in few weeks and send students to travel. Extracurricular activities are also available for the students within the school so socializing with foreign students will be easy.
Location - Within the Down Town, there is a luxury apartment area called Yale Town, 5 minutes from Sky Train, also library is within 5 minutes walk so transportation is convenient.

모두 공부를 열심히 합니다. 다른 ESL학원 보다 문법을 중시하고 세세하게 가르쳐줍니다. 오전 문법 오후 회화시간이지만, 본인의 선택에 따라 발음,
듣기, 쓰기, 토익 등 다양한 선택과목을 들을 수 있습니다. 또한 학교 규모가 커서 문법 또는 회화 반은 반이 2개씩 편성되어 혹시나 자신과 맞지않는
수업의 분위기 일 경우 첫째 주 사이에 수업을 바꿀수 도 있습니다. 선생님들은 10명 이상으로 기억하며 모두 친절했습니다.
인종비율
태국.중국.일본.브라질.베네수엘라 등 다양한 나라 그리고 다양한 연령대의 학생들이 공부합니다. 한국인의 비율은 시즌마다 다르지만 보통은 20명 정원에
3명 또는 많으면 5명 정도로 기억합니다. 영국 어학연수시절에는 선생님들이 서양아이들을 편애하는 약간의 인종차별을 경험하였지만, 캐나다는 이민자
사회가 기반이여서 인종차별은 전혀 느낄수 없었습니다.

약간 들 뜬 분위기이면서도 시험기간에는 다들 일찍와서 시험을 준비하거나 서로 공부하며 집중하는 모습을 보입니다. 강의실이 골목골목으로 있어 가끔 길을 잃기도
합니다. 점심시간을 위해 전자레인지와 간이싱크대도 준비되어 있으며 무엇보다 넓은 공간이 있습니다. 중국.일본.한국.등등 각 나라의 코디네이터가 항시대기하고 있어
여러가지 오리엔테이션 및 도움을 줍니다. 또한 "English Only Zone"이라는 표시판 내 (공중전화가 있는 곳을 제외한 모든 공간) 에서는 영어만을 써야하며 적발시
Yellow Card를 받습니다. 이는 경고의 표시이며 2번 적발시 에세이 작성 3번 적발시 퇴학으로 이어집니다. 반대로 Green Card는 모국어를 쓰지않고 영어를 쓰는 사람에게
줍니다. 몇 주에 한번 추첨을 통해 근교여행을 보내줍니다. 교내에서 야회활동 프로그램을 다양하게 갖추고 있어 외국친구들과 어울리기에 좋습니다.

다운타운 중 Yale Town이라는 고급아파트지역에 위치하여 있고, Sky Train에서 도보 5분거리 또 도서관 또한 5분 거리에 있어 이동이 편리했습니다.
若干の浮いた雰囲気でありながらも、試験期間には、みんな早く来て試験の準備をしたり、お互いに勉強して集中する姿を見せます。講義室が路地ごとになっており、たまに道を迷ったこともあります。昼食時間のために電子レンジと簡易シンクも用意されており、何よりも広いスペースがあります。中国、日本、韓国、等、それぞれの国のコーディネーターが常時待機しており、様々なオリエンテーションと役立ちます。また、""English Only Zone""という表示板内（公衆電話があるところを除いたすべての空間）は、英語のみを使わなければならないし、摘発時Yellow Cardを受け取ります。これは、警告の表示であり、2回摘発時にはエッセイ作成、回摘発時に退学につながります。逆にGreen Cardは、母国語を使わずに英語を話す人に与えられます。数週間に一回抽選で近郊旅行を送ってくれます。校内で野外活動プログラムを多様に備えており、外国人の友人との交流にも適しています。
