Established in 1972, the International House occupies the first floor of a building in the city center. Its first aim and an on-going goal is to teach English to people from the local community. The establishment of the institution was followed by the establishment of the center's Spanish department, language course agency, in-company language training department, Spanish teacher training department, and Conference for Spanish teachers. These major events consolidated the institution. Today, Barcelona boasts 3- years of experience in teaching Spanish as well as English to local residents. the school is always full of international students from all around the world. IH also has personal recommendations set and prepared for its students. With extensively trained instructors and systematically designed courses, IH assures a worthwhile experience to its students.
Focus of study: This course provides 20 hours of class per week and helps students to improve their Spanish and learn how to communication effectively in Spanish.
Benefit of this course: The price of the course includes booking, the pre-course level test, all course materials, programme of social and cultural activities; and access to all the school's facilities, including free Internet usage. Class size is 7 average, with a maximum of 10 students. Classes are for all levels, from complete beginners to very advanced.
Class hours: Monday to Friday, 09:30 to 13:30, with a twenty-minute break. Classes are held 4 hours a day, giving 20 hours a week.

IH students have the option of staying with host families, university residences, apartments or hotels. Type A provides students with single rooms that are comfortably furnished with heating and lighting facilities. This also comes with laundry facilities, daily bath, continental breakfast and a door key. Type B, or executive host family option comes with an 'upmarket' apartment with private bathrooms. Families also provide washing and ironing. Higher prices will be charged for this choice. the STandard student residence occupies the first and ground floor of apartment building. With 32 bedrooms that are either single, double or triples, 14 bathrooms, TV lounges, dining rooms, terrace and vending machines, the residence area offers students with clean and ideal environment. Student apartments are located 10-20 minute distance away from the campus. Furnished rooms, kitchen, bathroom, living room will be provided as well as a washing machine and TV.

IH Barcelona includes 40 air-conditioned classrooms, free, high-speed internet access, 15 personal computers that are open 60 hours ever week, free access to WiFi, bar, terrace and bathroom facilities for disabled students.
Activities
IH Barcelona organizes student activities from time to time. However, a separate social programme is designed in order to offer a full-calender events to students. A sample social programme includes events like guided tour of the Gothic Quarter, visit to Gaudi's Sagrada Familia, visit to the Picasso Museum, IH Friday Club language exchange, Costa Brava, Figueras and Dali museum, visit to the Barcelona City Museum, walk around the Ribera District and visit to Gaudi's Park Guell.
