As an integral component of fulfilling the mandate of Central Connecticut State University as a Center for Excellence in International Education, it is the mission of the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) to provide English As an integral component of fulfilling the mandate of Central Connecticut State University as a Center for Excellence in International Education, it is the mission of the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) to provide English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction in American English and an introduction to American culture. The IELP serves international students, non-native speakers of English residing in the surrounding area, faculty members from abroad, and foreign professionals. Specifically, the IELP offers English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to individuals who are seeking matriculation into American universities, especially CCSU, and facilitates the transition of these students into mainstream academic courses. Central Connecticut State University is a regional, comprehensive public university in New Britain, Connecticut. The southernmost of the New England states, Connecticut provides a wealth of social and cultural activities for visitors. The state’s rural beauty is balanced by its close proximity to New York City and Boston, Massachusetts. It is an ideal location for students who enjoy quiet surroundings, but who wish to be near to some of the greatest cultural assets the United States has to offer.

Central Connecticut State University is a regional, comprehensive public university in New Britain, Connecticut. Founded in 1849 to train teachers, CCSU has expanded over time to become a four-year degree granting institution and University. It also offers Master's degrees and Doctoral degrees. Its borders now stretch to the western edge of Newington where State Routes 9 and 175 intersect. CCSU is made up of five schools: the Ammon School of Arts & Science, the School of Business, the School of Education & Professional Studies, the School of Engineering & Technology, and the School of Graduate Studies. Attended by over 11,000 students, 9,200 are undergraduates, and 2,000 are graduate students. In the Connecticut State University system, CCSU is the most selective. It is part of the ConnSCU system of colleges and universities in Connecticut, which also oversees Eastern, Western, and Southern Connecticut State University. Together the four universities have a student body of over 34,000.
