The International Extension Programs (IEP) unit of the College of Extended Learning offers regularly scheduled and customized short- and long-term language and professional training programs for students and professionals from across the world. IEP instructors are highly trained professionals who understand how to help students navigate through the complexities of learning a second language in addition to overcoming the challenges of adjusting to living abroad. The suburban city of San Bernardino where the institution is located, is in the inland region of southern California, with easy access to Los Angeles, San Diego, Disneyland, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, beaches, and mountains.

The main campus sits on 441 acres (178 ha) in the suburban University District of San Bernardino, California, United States, with a branch campus of 40 acres (16 ha) in Palm Desert, California, opened in 1986. In 2011, California State University, San Bernardino was named a 2012 Best College in the Western Region by The Princeton Review for the eighth straight year in a row, ranking CSUSB among the top 25 percent of universities across the nation.
