The Intensive English Program is a 10-week program that is offered year-round—in fall, winter, spring and summer—and includes a total of 220 hours of instruction at eight different levels of proficiency, from 100 (beginner) to 800 (advanced). Students are placed in one of the eight proficiency levels based on a written and oral evaluation. When the students successfully complete the level they are placed in, they will move up to the next level the following quarter. Depending on the student's initial level, he/she might complete the 800 level during his/her last quarter. I am sorry to let you know that it is too late to apply for the Summer Quarter Intensive English Program. The Fall Quarter Intensive English Program (September 24 to December 5, 2014) is open for enrollment and the enrollment deadline is August 27, 2014.
My cousin lives at Secrimento(?) so I was searching universities near that area. Although I was forced to study abroad, after 2 weeks I fell in love with Davis Uni.
Lessons were very well structured, kind teachers; they are very different to Korean teachers. I was regretting that I didn’t come earlier to experience this. Various types of programs allow you to meet different types of people. Simply just non Koreans.
The most famous one is the ice cream social which is held every Friday. A lot of people come to this event so it was very helpful to improve my speaking skills. The one good thing about Davis is that there is only few Koreans. When I returned to Korea after 9 months I nearly forgot some of the Korean!
I realized how nice people are in Davis compared to New York. And for accommodation I chose home stay for few months but it was very terrible as the Mexican family’s food was just not the thing for me and the host family sort of ripped me off in various ways. After the contract finished I got a room share which was 600 dollars per month. Two rooms two toilets, it was very good.
Are you preparing for to study at Davis? I will link you a very good site for information. http://www.kgsaatucdavis.com/ I hope I get to see you at Davis
